The Jules Bordet Institute, part of the Hôpital Universitaire de Bruxelles (H.U.B), a university teaching hospital of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (U.L.B), is a leading comprehensive cancer center in Belgium. Its services range from cancer screening to multidisciplinary cancer treatment and state-of-the art clinical and laboratory research, for which the Institute is renowned on both the national and international levels.

The Jules Bordet institute hosts one of Europe’s leading nuclear medicine facilities, featuring three PET/CT and four SPECT/CT cameras, a GMP compliant radiopharmacy and five dedicated rooms for radionuclide therapy. The department has a pioneering track record in molecular imaging and radiotheranostics and is currently engaged in several cutting-edge research projects exploring innovative applications in breast cancer.

The Department of Nuclear Medicine is pleased to offer a ULB Clinical Fellowship in Oncological Nuclear Medicine, as part of its commitment to clinical excellence and academic development.

This PhD program is designed for physicians who are board-certified (or board-eligible) in nuclear medicine and who wish to deepen their expertise in the oncological applications of nuclear medicine, particularly in the field of innovative molecular PET/CT imaging and targeted radionuclide therapy for breast cancer.

Fonction

Fellowship activities include:

  • Acting as medical coordinator for upcoming/ongoing research projects.
  • Writing, discussing, and developing new/ongoing study protocols in cancer (phase I to III studies);
  • Clinical, biological, translational, and imaging data analyses conducted in ongoing research projects
  • Writing review and research articles, book chapters, and abstracts under the guidance of a senior nuclear physician with expertise in a particular field of oncology;
  • Writing grant applications whenever required;
  • Attending and presenting journal clubs;
  • Interacting with other departments within the institution for related research activities;
  • Interacting with the Clinical Trial Support Unit (CTSU) and Clinical Trial Conduct Unit (CTCU)
  • Attending nuclear and oncological conferences, meetings and workshops;
  • Helping on the training of new team members;
  • Assisting with medical presentation preparation

Duration:

1 to a maximum of 4 years (renewed on a yearly basis based on performance)

Profil

  • Hold a degree in medicine and have recently completed, or are soon to complete, their specialization in nuclear medicine.
  • Strong interest in oncological molecular imaging and radionuclide therapy.
  • Strong interest in breast cancer clinical care and research
  • Willingness to pursue a PhD degree at the Faculty of Medicine of the ULB (4 years program)
  • Motivation to work in a multidisciplinary academic environment.
  • Be fluent in English (French and/or Dutch are an asset);
  • Preferably have some clinical research and publication background;
  • Be able to work in an international environment;
  • Possess excellent communication skills and team spirit;
  • Be able to work within established deadlines;
  • Be able to work on different activities (multi-task);
  • Possess computer skills (including medical statistics)
